If radio is outlawed, only outlaws will have radio. There are hardly any local or community based radio stations in vast swathes of South Asia. Our governments are quick to ban news on radio or ban radio altogether. This plays right into the hands of mullahs and militants: it costs them very little to set up a radio station, and though their ‘programming’ is truly atrocious, people listen to them as there is nothing else to listen to, except maybe government radio. Maoist radio stations -- which, like Mullah radio, are unlicensed and propaganda-driven – made very little headway in Nepal, thanks to liberal radio laws which encouraged local and community-based radio stations across the country. As Radio Khyber proves, the solution to bad radio is good radio, not government propaganda and certainly not a ban on radio.

It is easy to block a radio transmission. Broadcast noise/songs at same frequency, say 92.0 MHz.
