Call for papers on migration
The Centre for the Study of Labour and Mobility (CESLAM) is a research centre established in 2011 under the aegis of Social Science Baha, Kathmandu. It is dedicated to bridging the knowledge gap, expanding public understanding, and providing a forum for discussing issues related to labour and mobility. In addition, it pursues a distinctive interdisciplinary research approach designed to produce policy-relevant studies on a wide range of critical issues that confront people working in Nepal and abroad.
CESLAM invites proposals from individuals/groups who have done original work in areas related to migration in Nepal, and are seeking to find a platform to publish their work. While this call for papers is primarily meant for those who have conducted research on various aspects of migration for their Master’s or PhD thesis, those with original research in this area outside a university setting are also welcome to submit their work.
Interested applicants are required to submit the following:
- Letter of interest that includes: full name of the applicant(s), email address, supervisor’s name (if applicable), department/university/organisation, year research was conducted, and one-page CV of the applicant(s).
- A 200-250 word research abstract.
- A short statement of 200-250 words on how the research can contribute to the existing state of knowledge on migration in Nepal.
All applications must be emailed to info@ceslam.org by 4 March, 2012.
CESLAM will bring together the selected applicants for a day-long conference in the second half of March 2012. A review committee consisting of senior scholars working in the area of migration studies will select up to 10 papers for publication. If need be, the researchers will be provided an opportunity to further examine and revise their research under the guidance of CESLAM.
Papers will be evaluated according to its originality, relevance, clarity and potential to contribute significantly to existing knowledge on labour migration in Nepal. Shortlisted applicants will need to submit full papers and make a presentation during the conference.
